2027: Buhari’s son declares interest in Reps seat

The only son of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Yusuf Buhari (Talban Daura), has declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.

Yusuf made his ambition known in a personally signed letter dated April 3, 2026, titled “Expression of interest to contest for the seat of House of Representatives Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency.”

In the letter, he stated that his decision followed extensive consultations and was driven by a desire to contribute to effective and quality leadership in the constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

He said, “After wide consultations, I wish to contest for the seat of the House of Representatives, Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua, as my contribution to ensure good and qualitative leadership.”

Yusuf also appealed for support, promising to focus on infrastructure and human development if elected.

“Your support will help my ambition to succeed, to bring infrastructural development as well as human support and development to the people of this constituency,” he added.

His declaration comes barely a week after stakeholders of the APC in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State endorsed him as their preferred candidate for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency.

The endorsement was made during a high-level meeting at the Sandamu Local Government Secretariat, attended by elected officials and political appointees across the constituency.

Speaking at the meeting, the council chairman, Usman Na-Lado, described the move as a collective decision by party stakeholders, citing Yusuf’s perceived capacity and acceptance within the party.

He further noted that the meeting also reaffirmed support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Dikko Radda as the APC’s preferred candidates for the presidency and governorship, respectively, in 2027.

Meanwhile, sources within the party indicated that Yusuf’s endorsement may have been influenced by the state governor, with one source alleging that he is the “anointed candidate” of Governor Radda.
