JUST IN: Three Construction Workers Killed in Lagos Building Collapse
A building collapse in the Arowojobe Estate area of Lagos has claimed the lives of three construction workers. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident on Thursday, July 25th, 2024.
The collapse occurred at around 3:49 am at No. 13, Wilson Mba Street. LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, stated, “The agency received a distress call regarding a collapsed building at the above address.
This prompted the immediate activation of the agency’s response team to the scene of the incident.”
Search and rescue operations commenced immediately, with emergency services recovering three deceased adult males. Two other adult male workers were rescued alive, while a sixth worker remained trapped under the rubble.
“All six men were site worker. The rescued workers are receiving pre-hospital care on location, while the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit has been contacted for the remains of the three fatalities.” Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu explained.
LASEMA, along with the Lagos State Fire Service and the Nigeria Police Force, continue to work at the scene. An excavator has been deployed to expedite the search and rescue efforts.
