APC National Secretary Predicts Easy Win in Ekiti, Tough Contest in Osun

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has expressed strong confidence in the party’s chances in the forthcoming governorship elections in Ekiti State and Osun State, describing Ekiti as a near-certain victory while admitting Osun will be fiercely contested.

Speaking during a joint media chat in Abuja alongside APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, Basiru said the Ekiti poll would be a “walk in the park” for the ruling party.

“I just came back from Ekiti yesterday after going round the local governments. The level of support is overwhelming.

Ekiti is more or less a one-party state at the moment,” he said.

He attributed the party’s dominance in the state to the performance and popularity of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, noting that political stakeholders across party lines appear aligned with his re-election.

“I will not be surprised if we win in all polling units in Ekiti,” Basiru added.

In contrast, Basiru described the political climate in Osun as more competitive, acknowledging the strength of the opposition while maintaining optimism about the party’s chances.

“Osun will be tough, no doubt. But we are fully prepared. With the strategy we are adopting—especially our grassroots mobilisation—we are confident of victory,” he said.

Basiru disclosed that the party has already activated campaign structures across all levels in Osun, including federal constituency, senatorial, and state structures, alongside targeted engagement with women and youth groups.

He also highlighted the party’s shift toward modern campaign techniques, stressing the importance of data-driven strategies.

“We believe in a data-driven process to ensure victory,” he noted.

The remarks come amid heightened political activities ahead of the off-cycle governorship elections in both states, widely seen as critical tests for the APC’s strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While Ekiti is viewed as a stronghold of the ruling party, Osun has a history of closely fought contests, making it a key battleground.

Political observers say the APC’s dual approach—consolidation in Ekiti and aggressive mobilisation in Osun—reflects a broader strategy to maintain dominance while expanding influence.
