Ekiti Deputy Gov preaches Tolerance at Late Mum’s Funeral Service
...Celestial church honours departed Madam Adegboye
The burial programmes for the mother of the Ekiti State Deputy, Olori Esther Iyalaje Adegboye, on Tuesday began in Ikere Ekiti, Ikere Local Government Area, as Celestial Church of God, Women Council, held a Special Funeral Service in honour of the departed community leader.
The special church programme, was held at Noah Afeni Adegboye’s Compound, located at Oke Osun, in Ikere Ekiti.
As a prelude to the service, the Church members, who trooped out en masse enthusiastically, held a public procession across the major streets of Ikere Ekiti, as a demonstration of honour for the deceased.
Madam Adegboye, a wife of Akayejo Royal Dynasty of Ikere kingdom, died on February 18, 2025, and will be interred on June 27,2025.
The Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, is a respectable and top member of the Celestial Church of God in Ekiti State and Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor, applauded the Church for the honour, solidarity and fraternity at this period, saying this will further cement the bond of unity in Christendom.
Mrs Afuye, in a statement by her Special Assistant on Media, Victor Ogunje, said her mother was a great lover of Celestial Church during her lifetime, despite being an Anglican Church devotee, describing the honour being accorded her as apt and well deserved.
She added that the deceased was a strong believer of Christ, prayers and unity in the Church of God, saying the family will continue to reciprocate the love and honour exhibited by the Church to honour her late mother.
The Ekiti’s number two citizen appealed to Christians to embrace religious tolerance, in line with the philosophy of Governor Biodun Oyebanji that all Ekiti residents must live together in unity, regardless of differential in their religious beliefs.
In her exhortation, the Coordinator of Women Council of Celestial Church in Ekiti State, Mother Celestial Adefunke Obafemi, appreciated the Deputy Governor for her immense contributions to the growth of the Church.
Mrs Obafemi said the procession was conceptualized to honour the deceased for her love for the church and humanity during her lifetime, praying to God to grant her soul eternal rest.
She promised that the Church members will continue to support Governor Oyebanji’s government and live harmoniously with other residents, to sustain the relative peace and development being enjoyed in the state.
Meanwhile, the Oloris from Akayejo Royal Dynasty in the kingdom, also paid a courtesy visit to the Adegboye’s compound to honour the deceased, where they sang and danced to applaud the Deputy Governor and her siblings for their contributions to Ikere development.
They Oloris also offered prayers for the deceased’s children and for the success of the burial ceremonies.
