Ekiti Education Commissioner Tasks Stakeholders on full compliance with Government’s educational policies
….As stakeholders appraise 2024 State Examinations
Ekiti State Commissioner for Education, Dr (Mrs) Olabimpe Aderiye has charged stakeholders in the State’s education sector to ensure they fully comply with government’s educational policies in order to enhance service delivery in the sector.
Aderiye gave the charge in Ado-Ekiti while speaking at the Stakeholders Meeting on the appraisal of 2024 State Examinations.
She noted that all government policies are formulated after widespread consultation and proper consideration of available options as well as the interest of stakeholders in the sector
The Commissioner reaffirmed that the online registration for all State examinations introduced during the last academic session has come to stay, urging all stakeholders to work with the government to achieve a seamless exercise before, during and after the examinations.
According to her, the online examination registration policy adopted by her ministry is in line with global best practices and is cost-effective, more secure and efficient than the old system of registration.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Information, Rt Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun reiterated the critical role of all stakeholders in ensuring the smooth conduct of the examination process, emphasizing the commitment of the Oyebanji Administration to the transformation of education institutions in the State into centres of excellence.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Femi Akinwumi highlighted the importance of further sensitizing head teachers and school owners about their roles in monitoring the examination process, especially in relation to online registration.
In his remarks ,the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Information, Mr Sesan Alabi stressed the need for early delivery of examination materials to centres on examination days, noting this was achievable as no town in Ekiti is more than two -hour’s drive from the State Capital.
In her presentation, the Director of the Examinations and Records Department in Ministry of Education, Mrs Olutoyin Fajana urged schools to ensure the proper registration of candidates, by providing correct names, passport photographs, and other necessary details to avoid any error during the examination registration process.
The State ASUSS Chairman, Comrade Sola Adigun, stressed the importance of continuous follow-up with schools that are not complying with state policies during the registration process, adding that the follow up will lead to success of the examination exercise.
The IT consultant in charge of online registration, Mr Adesola Kudehinbu stressed the need for better orientation of students on how to correctly fill out the OMR sheets during the examination, explaining that many pupils fail to adhere to instructions, which can lead to errors.
He further stressed that school owners should rely on their own ICT personnel for the registration process instead of engaging cyber café operators, which had often led to complications.
Stakeholders at the meeting unanimously agreed that more personnel should engaged by the Examination and Records Department during State Examinations, to help distribute examination materials across the State to Area Education Officers and Education Secretaries at their various locations in good time.
Stakeholders at the meeting also resolved to address the challenges identified during the forum with a shared goal of improving the conduct and security of future state examinations.
