Ekiti Govt Seals Factory, Eatery Over Offensive Odour in Ado-Ekiti
The Ekiti State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources has sealed a cow skin processing factory and an eatery in Ado-Ekiti following an offensive odour that triggered health concerns among residents.
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe, said the action followed reports of a persistent odour nuisance across parts of the state capital on Friday, April 17, 2026.
She explained that the Ministry swiftly intervened to safeguard public health and prevent potential environmental hazards.
According to her, enforcement officers shut down the cow skin processing facility located at 132/133 KV, Oke Osun, in the Omisanjanna area of Ado-Ekiti due to the lingering offensive smell.
The facility, owned by Mr. Adebayo Omolewa, had reportedly been the subject of repeated complaints from residents over unhygienic practices and environmental pollution.
Aluko-Ajisafe added that the premises would remain sealed until the owner complies with stipulated environmental and public health standards, emphasising that prevention remains key to protecting public well-being.
In a related development, the Environmental Sanitation Task Force also closed an eatery within the metropolis for operating under unsanitary conditions.
She urged residents to support the administration of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji by complying with environmental regulations and reporting any form of environmental nuisance to the appropriate authorities.
