US-bound plane makes emergency return to Lagos after technical fault
A Boeing 787-8 United Airlines flight made an air return to Lagos on Thursday after departing for Washington.
The 13-year-old aircraft, registered as N27903, was heading to Washington Dulles International Airport before it returned with 245 passengers, eight flight attendants, and three pilots on board.
Reports indicate that some passengers sustained injuries, while a video showed luggage scattered and littering the interior of the aircraft.
Meanwhile, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Micheal Achimugu, revealed that the passengers have been accommodated in a hotel as stipulated by the NCAA Act.
In a terse statement, United Airlines attributed the incident to “a technical issue.”
“Flight UA613 from Lagos to Washington D.C. returned to Lagos to address a technical issue.
“After landing safely, the aircraft was met by first responders to address reports of minor injuries to several passengers and crew,” the statement read.
