Budget padding: Some people didn’t understand the arithmetic—Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has spoken about the budget padding allegations by Senator Abdul Ningi saying that some people did not undertsand the arithmetic involved.
Ningi, during an interview on BBC Hausa alleged that the 2024 budget was padded to the tune of N3.7 trillion.
Tinubu said this when he hosted the leadership of the Senate to a dinner on Thursday, March 20, to break the Ramadan fast at the State House, Abuja.
According to him, those making allegations of budget padding do not understand the arithmetic of the budget.
Speaking on it, Tinubu said: “I know the arithmetic of the budget and the numbers I brought to the Senate, and I know what I got back and I appreciate all of you for the expeditious handling of the budget.
“Those who are talking of malicious embellishments in the budget didn’t understand the arithmetic and they didn’t refer to the numbers that I brought but all of your integrity is intact and I am very grateful for all that you have been doing and the natural challenge that we face will be over.
“The natural challenge we are facing will be over. On the current economic difficulty, we are about turning the corner.
“Our revenue has improved. All we have to do is to control expenditures and manage ourselves better.
“Light is at the end of the tunnel, and Nigerians will soon smile again.”
