Ekiti Acting Chief Judge Frees 50 Inmates In Correctional Centre

The Ekiti State Acting Chief Judge, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye has released fifty inmates awaiting trial in the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti.

The Chief Judge who was conducted round the facility by the Deputy Comptroller of Correctional represented by Mr. Adeyemi Olapade commended the officers for maintaining clean environment as well as their efforts in keeping the inmates in good condition.

Addressing the gathering after the exercise, Justice Ogunmoye said, in all, a total of 562 cases of awaiting trial inmates, comprising of 5 females and 557 males were reviewed, twenty five were granted bail, nineteen were released unconditionally while six were left off hook as having no case to answer.

Justice Ogunmoye promised of paying regular visit to the Correctional Centre, adding that issue of prison decongestion must be treated with utmost priority.

In his remark, Ekiti State Attorney General & Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Dayo Apata SAN, advise those with criminal tendencies to stay clear of the state, as the the yuletide season approaches, he said, long hands of the law awaits them.

Some of the inmates released, appreciated the Chief Judge, they promised to be of good behaviour as they would be reuniting with their families.

Dignitaries at the visit includes, High Court Judges, Magistrates, Lawyers, Ekiti State Director of the Public Complaint Commission, Director of Public Prosecution, Julius Ajibare, Director, Legal Aid Council, Adeyinka Opaleke, OC Legal of the Nigerian Police Force, Ekiti State Command among others.
