EKSU Alumni Association Digitises EKITI STATE UNIVERSITY Library System with Koha ILS
The Alumni Association of Ekiti State University, under the dynamic leadership of its Global President, Ambassador Seyi Idowu, has fully funded the digitisation of the University Library through the deployment of Koha, an open-source Integrated Library System (ILS).
Koha, meaning “a gift” in the Maori language, is a robust and globally recognized platform that provides all the essential functions for managing a modern lending library. With this innovation, EKSU’s library operations are now automated, ensuring seamless access to knowledge resources for students, staff, and researchers.
The Koha System comes with cutting-edge features that will revolutionize the university’s library services:
An online public access catalog (OPAC) enabling users to search and access the library’s holdings from anywhere.
Self-registration for patrons, reducing paperwork and saving time.
Enhanced cataloguing tools with batch editing for efficient data management.
Customised reporting for each department.
Audit trails to track staff activities such as issuing and returning books, cataloguing, and fine collection.
Exclusion of public holidays in fines calculation for fairness.
A Web 2.0 OPAC where patrons can review, comment on, and tag books, with integrated social media sharing.
A more visually appealing and user-friendly interface.
Advanced search capabilities with a new backend.
E-library features and extended searches linking to digital versions of books via Google.
This Alumni-funded project underscores the Association’s commitment to supporting the University’s growth and transformation. It also places EKSU in line with global best practices in academic library management, providing students with access to world-class resources at their fingertips.
Ambassador Seyi Idowu, on behalf of the Alumni body, reiterated the Association’s dedication to ensuring that the University community enjoys modern infrastructure that enhances learning, research, and innovation.
The Vice-Chancellor and University Management have expressed deep appreciation to the Alumni Association for this landmark intervention, noting that it is a major step in positioning EKSU as a digital-first institution in the 21st century.
