Fayemi Pays Tribute to Late Olunloyo, says Nigeria Lost One of Her Finest

Dr Kayode Fayemi, the immediate-past Governor of Ekiti State and former Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former Governor of Oyo State, describing him as “a committed public servant who gave his best to Nigeria.”

In a statement issued by the Head of Fayemi’s Media Office, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, on Sunday in Abuja, Fayemi described the former governor’s death, coming just days to his 90th birthday, as the end of an era, one which Nigerians will remember for its principled leadership and selfless service.

Fayemi said: “Dr. Victor Olunloyo was an accomplished man in every sense of the word – mathematician, engineer, administrator, and statesman. He brought his formidable intellect and uncommon vision to bear on every assignment he undertook.

“He was not just a former governor, but a scholar, a visionary leader, and a patriot who served Nigeria with distinction. His tenure as Governor of Oyo State, though brief, was marked by progressive policies and a commitment to good governance.

Fayemi described the late Olunloyo as a brilliant mind whose contributions to the development of Western Nigeria and the country at large will not be forgotten in a hurry, stating that the former governor lived with courage and stood as a symbol of excellence and integrity.

He extended his condolences to the Olunloyo family, the government and people of Oyo State, and all who were touched by the late elder statesman’s life and legacy, noting that Nigeria has lost one of her finest. He prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and strength for his family at this time of grief.

“May the Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife rest in peace. His was a life well lived, and we are all the richer for it,” Fayemi stated.
