Over 130 trapped students rescued from collapsed Jos school building
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has rescued over 130 students trapped in a collapsed school building in Jos, Plateau State.
According to reports, 30 of the rescued students are receiving medical attention for various injuries at nearby hospitals, including Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Plateau Specialist Hospital, Jos University Teaching Hospital, and AG Hospital.
This was disclosed in a post by the Director General of National Emergency Management Agency, Zubaidah Umar on Saturday, July 13.
The post reads: “In a search and rescue operation coordinated by #nemanigeria, we were able to rescue over 130 trapped students from the collapsed school building in Jos, Plateau State, yesterday.
“While we have 30 of them still receiving medical care for varying degrees of injuries at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Plateau Specialist Hospital, Jos University Teaching Hospital, and AG Hospital, others have been discharged.
“Our personnel are on ground providing necessary support to the families of the victims and the medical teams in these hospitals.
“Unfortunately, a total of 22 fatalities were recorded. Our heartfelt condolences to the families of the pupils that lost their lives and the Plateau State Government.”
