ENUGU GOVERNOR LOSES SENATE BID TO LABOUR PARTY

The Enugu State governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has lost his bid to become a  senator to the candidate of the Labour Party, Okechukwu Ezeah.

Ugwuanyi, who is currently completing his eight years of two tenures as the governor of Enugu State had represented Udenu/Igbo-Eze North Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives for three terms of 12 years before becoming governor of the state in 2015.

According to results announced on Sunday by the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Labour Party candidate, Okey Ezea, defeated Ugwuanyi, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, to emerge Senator-Elect for Enugu North Senatorial zone.

Ezea polled a total of 104,492 votes to defeat Ugwuanyi who came second with 46,948 votes.

The All Progressives Congress candidate for the district, Ejike Eze, garnered 6,816 votes to come a distant third.
